Become a Homeowner
Families are eligible to apply for Habitat homes if your income is between 25 and 50 percent of the area median. Selections are made based on three criteria: 1) housing need, defined as residing in substandard housing; 2) willingness to partner with Habitat, specifically in meeting the sweat equity component of our program; and 3) the financial ability to meet monthly mortgage payments, but unable to secure traditional bank financing. Each affiliate has a Family Selection
Committee that interviews potential partner families, conducts credit checks and other screenings, and assists in resolving financial difficulities or fulfilling obligations for sweat equity. For more specific information, contact the affiliate in the neighborhood that is of interest to you.

Make a Financial Contribution
Habitat is a private, non-profit organization and contributions are fully tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Your gift will be put to work immediately in our region to build homes in partnership with families in need.

2 Ways to Donate
Habitat is able to keep the costs of construction low through the donation of materials and services. Habitat offers 2 options for those who wish to donate supplies, tools, and professional services.
Direct to Houses – Supplies, Tools, and Services
In addition to financial contributions, Habitat accepts certain donations of building supplies which can be used in the construction of houses. Habitat gains important cost-savings by not having to purchase lumber, sheetrock, shower/tub units, and other items that go into the actual building of homes. We can also use all kinds of tools (from ladders to staple guns to hand trucks). Finally, our home building efforts are enhanced by those professionals who wish to donate their services such as trash removal, electrical wiring, and tree trimming.
To make a donation of goods or services for home building please call Emma Simmons at 215-564-2102 or the local affiliate in your area.
Direct to ReStores – Reduce, Reuse, ReStore!
In the Delaware Valley, several Habitat affiliates operate “ReStores.” These are retail outlets which sell gently used home goods and building materials to the public at a low cost. Items for sale are donated by individuals, remodeling companies, and building contractors. The revenue generated from these stores goes directly back to Habitat to support home building activities. “ReStores” currently exist or are being started in Bucks County, Chester County, Montgomery County, and Camden.
To inquire about donating to ReStores please contact the local store in your area.
Sponsor a House
You can partner with Habitat and make the dream of homeownership come true for a family in need. Numerous corporations, faith-based institutions, trade associations, and civic groups have sponsored an entire house, ensuring that another family can purchase their first home. Many sponsors also contribute volunteer hours, giving their employees or members an opportunity to work side-by-side with the partner family. We can reserve a week, a series of Saturdays, or other schedule to accommodate your employees and members.
To find out how you can sponsor a house, call Mark Seigel at 215-564-2101.
Designate your United Way Gift for Habitat
DVHFH is eligible to receive your United Way gift under the Specific Needs category. Our United Way code number is 12703. We are also eligible for the Combined Federal Campaign; please call the office for our designation number.
Become a Volunteer
Volunteers are an essential ingredient of the Habitat building model. No specific experience is needed, though we are always looking for skilled construction help. You may volunteer individually or as a group. Saturdays are the most popular day for volunteers, so call as soon as possible if that is the only day you are available. Habitat affiliates are also seeking volunteers in a variety of non-construction areas, including accounting, MIS, human resources, and office assistance, among other things. Call the affiliate nearest you for other ideas and more information.
Attend an Event
There's lots going on at all of our affiliates, including regular tours of building sites and various special events. Call the individual Habitat affiliate for more information.
